​All children develop differently, so how do we know when it’s time to consult a Speech Pathologist? 
In addition to things which might be considered more obvious, such as stuttering, the following list may help you decide if your child would benefit from working with a Speech Pathologist:
Things you may notice about your young child at home..
  • Swallowing and chewing at any age
  • At 18 months old, not yet consistently following simple commands, not using many words or not communicating effectively with gesture and noises
  • 2 years old and has a vocabulary of fewer than 50 spoken words
  • ... 3 and  *speech
  • ... 3 and *language

  • ... taking longer than expected to learn early literacy skills such as matching sounds to letters​
Things your child may find difficult at school...
  • Remembering and using new school vocabulary
  • Figuring out new words when reading

  • Making or keeping friends
