The BASICS
Telehealth is the rapidly-growing delivery of health-related services through online platforms, usually with live video streaming.
At Speech Stories, in addition to the live-stream we also use interactive tools to enhance the experience and help us deliver the best quality therapy services.

the benefits
Convenience - as long as you have a suitable device (see below for more info), a quiet space and good internet, you can benefit from telehealth services from your own home.
THE LIMITations
At Speech Stories, we have several years of experience in determining which issues can be effectively treated through our telehealth solution, and which require face-to-face physical appointments.
We offer both services and we'll have a clear and honest discussion with you about which would be best for you and your child.
Please note that we generally prefer to do all initial assessments in person.

the way it works
It's very simple; we will send you a link, meeting ID and password and connect to you using the Zoom video platform, which we've found to be the most effective, simple and reliable option. Zoom will not charge you for connecting to the meeting.

We've found that it certainly helps to have an adult available to help to begin with, but over time, as they become more familiar with the process, some children are able to attend their online sessions responsibly and independently.

THE technical stuff
Our telehealth services can be delivered on mobile devices, but in our experience it's most effective when the client is able to use a laptop or desktop PC. Basically; the bigger the screen, the better. Most laptops and devices now have an inbuilt camera, microphone and speaker, but if you're using a PC you may need to add a webcam.
Zoom recommends a minimum speed of 2mb/s and the average in Australia is around 40 mb/s, so if you have home broadband, the streaming quality should be excellent. You can check your internet speed using this website.
The only other thing we recommend is a pair of headphones with microphone, such as the ones that come free with most mobile phones. Please note that this is not essential, and telehealth can be effectively delivered through your device's inbuilt microphone and speakers.
