Literacy Skills (Reading, Spelling & Writing) and Dyslexia

What are LITERACY SKILLS

Literacy skills include being able to read, understanding what is read, writing sentences and texts, spelling and using punctuation in writing.

In order to read and spell effectively, children first need to develop their phonological awareness skills, including blending sounds together to ‘hear’ a word, segmenting a word into its component sounds and manipulating sounds in words to make different words.

Literacy skills are essential for success at school and throughout adult life.

Check this list of ways to support your pre-schooler to develop their early literacy skills, even before they start school!

WHEN SHOULD I SEEK HELP

If your child is struggling to develop any of their literacy skills at any age, it is important to seek help.
Research shows that early intervention is more effective.

We are experienced in assessing and treating a wide range of skills that are contribute to reading and spelling difficulties.

We are certified to teach the Sounds-Write program - a highly structured, multi-sensory and effective synthetic phonics program - to children and adolescents who have difficulties reading and spelling.
