Our ASESSMENT SERVICES
Having your child’s communication skills assessed may seem daunting, but it can be an extremely useful process in understanding their strengths and then designing a tailored approach to supporting their areas of need.
The length of time taken to complete an initial assessment depends on the age of the child and the presenting concerns. Click here for information about length and costs of assessments.
For younger children, the assessment will be interactive, fun and play-based, and the evaluation report provided to the parent(s) or carer will be a significant component of the assessment.
For older children and teenagers, the initial assessment will involve some formal testing of the areas of concern (eg speech sounds, verbal language skills, literacy skills) as well as informal assessment (eg testing skills in more naturalistic ways), observation and games to keep your child motivated.
The assessment may be split into two sessions to ensure that your child is concentrating and participating as well as they're able to.
A comprehensive evaluation report will be completed after the assessment.
It will include information gathered in the case history questionnaire and interview, observations made during the sessions and the results of formal and informal assessment by your Speech Pathologist.
It will outline any recommendations for further speech and language intervention together with practical recommendations for home and school.
